The truth

Little Johnny learned at school, from one of his classmates, that most adults are hiding at least one dark secret ... which makes it very easy to blackmail them, simply by saying: "I know the whole truth."

(Very educational, these schools.)

So he decides to try it out. When he comes home that day, as he is being greeted by his mother, he says: "I know the whole truth." His mother quickly hands him $20 and says: "Just don't tell your father."

This truth thing seems to be working quite well. Quite pleased, Johnny can hardly wait for his father to come home from work, and promptly greets him with (what else?): "I know the whole truth." The father quickly hands him $40 and says, "Please don't say a word to your mother."

So that covers the two major adults in Johnny's life, but this is too good not to try on others. But who else? As he is leaving for school the next day, Johnny happens to run into their mailman on his route. Why not? He greets the mailman by saying: "I know the whole truth."

The mailman immediately drops the mail, opens his arms, and says, "Then come give your real father a big hug."
