Smile of the Day

Life is getting much too serious, yes? Who doesn't need a daily smile?

Water ...

A traveller became lost in the desert. Realising his only chance for survival is to find someone, anyone, he begins walking. Time passes. More time. Heat. Thirst. On the verge of collapse, he suddenly spots a tent in the distance: pulls up his last efforts to reach it. Barely conscious, he crawls up to it and croaks out: "Water ..."

The resident of the tent appears, only to reply sympathetically: "I am sorry, sir, but I have no water. However, would you like to buy a tie?" And he brandishes a collection of exquisite silken neckwear.

"But," gasps the man, "I need water ..."

"Well, sir," says the tie salesman, "if you really need water, there is a tent about two kilometres south of here where you can get some."

Almost at the end of his strength, the man somehow discovers new reserves. Somehow, he manages to drag his parched body the distance to the second tent; and it is with his last ounce of strength that he tugs at the door of the tent, and collapses.

The owner of the tent appears, dressed in an Armani tuxedo: "May I help you?"

"Water ..."

"Oh, sir, I am sorry, but you can't come in here without a tie ..."
